The news that baseball is slowly, grindingly, managing the PED cheating in its midst is good news for the integrity of the game. Alex Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz, Jhonny Peralta and Everth Cabrera, among numerous others, were named today by Major League Baseball in the Biogenesis scandal. But as the debate has mostly swirled around whether suspensions will be 50 games or 100 games or considerably longer in A-Rod’s case, lost amid the excitement is that one of baseball’s all-time greats (who never came near a PED) has been quietly suspended for 24 years now, and counting. It’s time to welcome back Pete Rose.
